This figure is down fractionally compared to the 55.2 % of respondents who said they had gambled in the previous four weeks in the December 2009 survey.
The level of remote gambling participation for the year to March 2010 climbed to 10.7 % 10.5 % in the 2009 calendar year, driven exclusively by an increase in online lottery sales, with all other products including poker, casino, betting and bingo remaining unchanged or decreasing compared to the previous period.
Excluding those that played only National Lottery products online, the level of remote gambling participation totalled 5.7 % of respondents, unchanged versus 2009 and up 0.1 % compared to 2008.
Amongst all respondents, 9.4 % said they had gambled online via the internet, up from 9.1 % in the 2009 calendar year, with mobile unchanged at 2.8 % and interactive TV down from 1.9 % to 1.7 %.
Excluding those who only play the National Lottery online, remote gambling participation via the internet remain unchanged at 4.6 % of respondents, with mobile participation down from 2 % to 1.9 % and interactive TV down from 1.5 % to 1.3 %.
