Fifteen consortiums showed interest in associating to the Uruguayan state to operate casinos

Last Thursday, the envelopes of the investment offers that will involve the construction of tourist complex and hotels in Maldonado, Colonia, Durazno, Florida, Paysandú, Soriano, Rocha, Cerro Largo and Artigas were opened.

According to casino sources, the firm Kaskira S.A., connected to Ideas del Sur, belonging to Marcelo Tinelli, and partner of the current casino of Hotel Radisson in Colonia, proposed the construction of a touristic complex in the city of Paysandú and another one in the City of Colonia.

The tender plans the association between the state and private companies through mixed developments. This system establishes that an investor must make an investment related to tourism and develop a gambling venue with slots and table games. The private party charges a percentage to the state as a rent. It means, that the development is managed by personnel of the casino direction and not by the investment company.

Nopitsch said that a commission –comprised by delegates of the Ministeries of Economy and Tourism and of the city councils in which they will perform the mixed developments- will select the investments proposed. Tender process will be performed before March 1st, he said.
