It would change Prode game and would take Pálpitos case as an example

The Argentine Football Association analyzes to open to the sportsbooks business

(Argentina).- The Argentine Football Association (AFA) analyzes the possibility to enter in the gambling business, due to the low collection of local football betting game Prode (less than us$ 88,000 annually).

AFA, through an agreement with National Lottery, would create for 2009 a betting system, similar to the one of the firm Palpitos SRL, from Tucuman, that just in its jurisdiction collects 15 times more than Prode.

Among the modifications, people could also bet on the result of just one match, and not

only the winner or loser of the 13 matches, which includes the card, as it currently operates.

The end of Prode would have another argument: AFA wishes to prevent sportsbooks companies to use their competences as a source of collection. Hugo Cots said. "The only game of chance that our tournaments may operate is Prode, and it is regulated by law 25,295. Whoever does it, is breaking the law,” explained the general secretary.

The company Palpitos SRL said, through his owner, Roberto Sagra, that "It does not violate the law, because the Popular Saving Bank of Tucuman, the entity that regulates the activity, does not join Law 25,295". Sagra said, in response to Article 4 of such law: “Regional jurisdictions may be able to participate in the operation or commercialization as official entities, on whose effect they will have to suscribe the corresponding agreement with National Lottery”. It means that Popular Saving Bank and Palpitos do not have neither the authorization of National Lottery nor AFA because they would not need it, according to Sagra.

AFA and Palpitos SRL are just two of many actors that are seduced by the money generated by the games of chance business.
