Under terms of the deal, the betting exchange will sponsor Tattersalls annual sale of yearling horses, and, through its subsidiary Timeform, sponsor a series of racing events at Newmarket in 2008 and 2009.

Financial terms of the double sponsorship are not being disclosed, although reports suggest that a ’substantial six-figure sum’ is involved. The arrangement with Tattersalls, which was founded in 1766, is expected to run for three years.

Earlier this month, Betfair announced a deal to sponsor the World Series of Poker Europe until 2011.
