MGM is negotiating a lease with the casual restaurant company and hopes to begin construction later this year, with an opening at the end of 2019 or in early 2020.

Michael Mathis, president and chief operating officer of the $960 million casino, confirmed on Monday that "Wahlburgers is still coming to MGM Springfield."

However, the location is not listed as coming soon on the Wahlburgers — the casual restaurant company founded by actors Mark Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg with their chef brother, Paul Wahlberg — website.

The MGM Springfield Wahlburgers will be at the site where Dave’s Furniture once stood at Main and Union streets next door to Red Rose Pizzeria. It’ll be a stand-alone building. There is no word on the size of the restaurant.

Mark Wahlberg was in Springfield to promote the location just before MGM’s gala grand opening in August 2018. He also made stealthy visits to scope out the site, showing up with construction workers in photos on social media feeds.

The first Wahlburgers was in Hingham in 2011. The chain now has 26 restaurants in 18 states, Toronto and London.

There are five Massachusetts locations. Three of them are in Boston, including one at Logan Airport, one in Dorchester and one on Brookline Avenue. The other two are in Hingham and Lynnfield. The company has a Boston-area food truck as well.

Wahlburgers would add to dining options already at MGM Springfield including Italian restaurant Cal Mare, Chandler Steakhouse, South End Market food hall and Tap Sports Bar. The South End Market includes the Wicked Noodles pan-Asian restaurant, Jack’s Lobster Shack with lobster rolls and New England-style clam chowder, Bill’s Diner and healthy options at the Hearth Grill.
