Cryptologic operated online poker room Playboy Poker has shut down its services following a review of its business and performance by new owners NYX Gaming Group.

The white label poker room which operated on the Ongame Poker Network, had served prior notice to its player base alerting players that it would discontinue its operations. Playboy Poker customers were given till the 27 July to withdraw existing funds.

Playboy Poker had been re-launched in June 2013, following the acquisition of Cryptologic Gaming by Amaya Inc. In April 2015, Amaya would sell Cryptologic services to Toronto listed NYX Gaming Group as part of an £80 million acquisition package with Chartwell Technology.

NYX Gaming Group cited that the closure of Playboy Poker had been undertaken due to “business decisions”.

As a brand Playboy has struggled to gather momentum in the igaming sector despite numerous attempts to market its services.

Under original owners Cryptologic, Playboy Casino and Poker brands gained little traction within the competitive UK online gambling market.

At present it remains unknown whether NYX Gaming Group or Playboy will look to re-launch a branded igaming service.
