More than USD 1.8B wagered online in Spain

(Spain).- Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ, in Spanish) has released a study which defines the average Spanish online player profile for the gaming sector. It also shows the domestic growth in this sector during the last quarter of 2013.

According to the results published, the average Spanish player is a 34 year-old man, with a higher education level compared to the European average. Data shows that 52% of people surveyed have university-level experience and a 9 % have some sort of post-graduate certification.

On the other hand, the study also revealed that, in the last quarter of 2013 more than 1.4 billion euros (US$ 1.8 billion) was wagered in Spain, a 13.9% increase from the previous quarter.

Finally, the report revealed that, despite the fact that many people gamble everyday, for a substantial period of time, players do not consider gambling as a risk. That is why more informationalcampaigns will be promoted to reduce the risk of gambling addiction.
