(Hong Kong).- Galaxy Macau’s opening advertising campaign accounted for 57 % of hotel advertising in Hong Kong last month, South China Morning Post reports. The US$ 3.60 million campaign included acquiring all the advertising space at the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station from May 5 to 31, according to media-monitoring firm admanGo.

It was the largest-recorded advertising campaign spending in Hong Kong for a casino hotel opening, beating the previous HK$13.12 million record established by Venetian Macao in August 2007.

That helped lift hotel advertising spending in Hong Kong to US$ 1.68 million in May, up 228 % year-on-year.

Occupying the following four spots on the ranking were Macau hotel-casinos: MGM Macau (US$1.44 million), Venetian Macao (US$ 0.24 million), L’Arc (US$0.13 million) and City of Dreams (US$ 82).

Hong Kong is the second biggest supplier of tourists to Macau, after the mainland. Total visitor arrivals from the neighbouring SAR reached 3.1 million in the first five months of 2011, up by 3.0 % year-on-year.
