DraftKings has introduced DK Replay in Oregon, a baseball betting product that uses archived MLB games for pitch-by-pitch wagering through its sportsbook app.
The product operates through a database of past Major League Baseball plate appearances, allowing users to engage in wagers tied to real historical outcomes.
DraftKings described the offering as “offering a new way to bet on baseball, whether a game is going on or not,” with gameplay centered on “‘historical betting markets’ based on real MLB games.”
DK Replay presents users with an “anonymized pitcher versus batter matchup,” where identities are not initially disclosed. Instead, participants are categorized using performance indicators.
Those players are rated either bronze, silver, or gold based on key stats from the original game, such as batting average, slugging percentage, ERA, and strikeouts per nine innings. These ratings provide context for decision-making before each wager.
Customers are able to place a wager within the pitch clock on whether the next pitch will be a ball, strike, or in-play. Once the bet is placed, the actual outcome of the pitch will be revealed, and the bet will be graded.
At the conclusion of a full plate appearance, or if a user opts not to continue betting, additional details are disclosed. The names and teams of the pitcher and batter, date of the game, and inning from the original game will be shown.
Following this reveal, users may proceed to a new matchup within the same format.
DK Replay is currently limited to Oregon, where DraftKings operates as the sole legal sportsbook provider through its agreement with the Oregon Lottery. The game received approval from the lottery prior to launch.
Access is restricted to users aged 21 and over, who must download the latest version of the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app to participate.
Further deployment will depend on regulatory clearance in other jurisdictions. DraftKings said it is “exploring additional state rollouts” for the product.
The introduction of DK Replay is part of DraftKings’ effort to integrate multiple offerings within a unified platform. The company is working toward a “super app” approach designed to “give customers most of DraftKings’ offerings in one place.”
By incorporating archived MLB data into a pitch-level betting interface, the product allows wagering independent of live game schedules.
The structure of DK Replay shares similarities with other historical data-based wagering formats, including historical horse racing and digital products that rely on archived sports results, such as a recently introduced Hard Rock Bet game in Florida that uses historical NASCAR results.
“DK Replay offers a new experience for our customers, allowing them to tap into the excitement of pitch-by-pitch betting in a unique historical environment,” said Corey Gottlieb, DraftKings’ chief product officer. “With DK Replay, we’re able to offer an experience that will allow customers to enjoy their favorite sports no matter the time of year.”
DraftKings has not provided a timeline for expansion beyond Oregon. Future availability remains subject to approvals from regulators in other states.
