New Jersey fines DraftKings $32,500 for multiple betting violations

New Jersey gambling regulators have fined DraftKings $32,500 after determining the sportsbook accepted illegal wagers, including bets on events that had already concluded and on teams that are prohibited under state law, The Press of Atlantic City reported.

In a letter outlining the violations, the Division of Gaming Enforcement said DraftKings failed to comply with multiple sections of New Jersey’s sports wagering statutes and regulations by allowing prohibited bets, offering markets with incorrect participants, and accepting past-posted wagers.

The agency detailed several incidents, including an August 2021 NCAA “Season Win Totals” market that improperly included Rutgers University, an April and May 2024 error in which DraftKings accepted wagers on the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, and a November 2024 lapse that allowed bettors to place wagers on NCAA women’s volleyball matches that had already concluded.

Regulators also cited a June 2024 issue involving an F1 Austrian Grand Prix market that listed a participant under a misspelled name, as well as an August 2024 soccer match that was abandoned at halftime and later rescheduled, triggering additional wagering irregularities.

DraftKings voided all affected bets and refunded patrons in each instance, but regulators said the frequency and nature of the errors warranted financial penalties and underscored the operator’s responsibility to maintain strict compliance controls.
