The organization behind the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians’ five casino properties has officially changed its name from Grand Traverse Resort and Casinos to the Grand Traverse Band Economic Development Corporation (GTBEDC).
The change aims to reflect a return to the organization’s original corporate roots and its broader focus on economic development for the tribe. GTBEDC oversees Northern Michigan properties Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel, Leelanau Sands Casino & Lodge, Crystal Shores Casino, Beach Fire Cannabis, and Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.
By reverting to the original Grand Traverse Band Economic Development Corporation name, the organization emphasizes its broader mission of promoting economic development for both the Grand Traverse Band and the surrounding region, according to a statement.
“This evolution goes beyond a new name – it represents our commitment to expanding our reach as an economic driver for the Grand Traverse Band,” said Johnny Barrientoz, CEO for Grand Traverse Band Economic Development Corporation. “From entertainment and hospitality to new business ventures, GTBEDC is focused on long-term sustainability and growth for our communities and our people.”
The move also aligns with the tribe’s goal of fostering economic sovereignty while generating employment, innovation, and community reinvestment.
