The state of Colorado has reached another milestone when it comes to legalized sports betting. The Colorado Department of Revenue’s Division of Gaming said that the total wagers reached $2 billion in March, which doubles the $1 billion that the state took in December, reports CBS Denver.
A statement released by the Division of Gaming showed that basketball ‘dominated the betting’ in March, since professional basketball brough in $106.9 million in wagers that were placed with retail and online operators while college basketball was in second place with %70.9 million. Followed by hockey with a total of $13.7 million, tennis with $10.8 million and soccer with $8.9 million.
The Division of Gaming also released data informing that the total handle for March came in at $300,990,842, a 12.9% increase over the prior month. Taxes collected by the state from sports betting wagers in the same month totaled $1,060,854.
Furthermore, mobile betting continues to account for a majority of the total betting handle, with 98% of wagers made online and 2% of wagers placed in a retail location.
Legal sports betting was introduced in Colorado in May of 2020.
