D.C. Lottery executive director resigning as of Friday
D.C. Lottery Executive Director Beth Bresnahan has announced her resignation and will depart from her post today Friday, according to The Washington Post.
"Bresnahan will go home to Massachusetts to tend to family issues that can no longer be handled from a distance", said David Umansky, a spokesman for the city’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer.
Bresnahan has led the lottery since January 2018. In that time, the agency was tasked with setting up the city’s sports betting system. The city's program includes a lottery-run retail sports betting program and mobile app called GambetDC. The mobile betting app launched in May after months of delays, and the initial reviews of it were not good. The lottery is also still in the process of trying to set up in-person sports betting at lottery retail locations.
In the meantime, at least one other betting option is already available, and others could come soon in D.C. William Hill is operating a pop-up sportsbook at Capital One Arena in Chinatown, and with that license it is able to offer betting through its mobile app for customers within a two-block radius of the arena.
