In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, all of the company's casinos closed on March 17 and does not yet have a set date to reopen.

Four Winds Casinos announced Tuesday the decision to temporarily suspend non-essential employees at all of its Indiana and Michigan locations.

The Four Winds Casinos, owned by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, are located in the states of Indiana and Michigan. The primary property is located in New Buffalo Township, Michigan, with satellite locations in Hartford, Michigan; Dowagiac, Michigan; and South Bend, Indiana.

The furlough went into effect on Monday, April 13, WSBT reports. The total number of furloughed workers is 1,489.

All Four Winds Casino locations closed on March 17 due to the coronavirus outbreak, and does not yet have a set date to reopen. According to the Pokagon Gaming Authority, all employees will be recalled when an opening date is decided.

"Due to unforeseen business circumstances and natural disaster precipitating this closure, prior notice could not be provided. Four Winds Casino does not anticipate using any bumping rights as there is no intention that positions will be eliminated," COO Frank Freedman wrote in a release.
