ExCeL London in Newham, which hosts ICE London every year and has a capacity of nearly 70,000 visitors, will be turned into The NHS Nightingale Hospital after it was visited by planners from the Ministry of Defence.
The UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced the temporary hospital on Tuesday at the daily press conference. He announced that the military to help establish the emergency coronavirus facility of two 2,000 patient wards.
ExCeL London is usually used for massive conventions and has more than 87,000 square metres of space and a capacity for more than 68,000 visitors. It is home to ICE London, organized by Clarion Gaming, which held its most recent edition on February 4-6 this year, with the next edition scheduled on 2-4 February 2021.
Other events that have been held there include Grand Designs Live, MCM Comic Con, and the Ucas Higher Education Exhibition. Since the outbreak, such events have been postponed.
