Coljuegos, Colombia's gambling regulator, has been fighting against the illegal market that has arisen in the country after the regulation of online gambling, which became effective in 2016. The legislation currently allows for the operation of 17 online platforms.
"By late 2019, Coljuegos had ordered that 3,365 illegal websites be blocked," said Coljuegos president Juan B. Pérez Hidalgo.
One of the strategies developed by Coljuegos in the regulatory body’s efforts to tackle illegal gambling is the 'Legality Deal' through which the federal government joined forces with local authorities, trade associations and the police to increase the number of raids against organizations that operate gambling illegally.
