During his electoral campaign, President Jair Bolsonaro expressed his views against gambling, but still, said each state should decide whether to legalize them or not. According to Brazil’s Chief of Staff, the issue should now be dealt with together with potential amendments to certain federal rules.

Last Thursday, Onyx Lorenzoni, Chief of Staff of the Presidency, unveiled the executive government might decide to authorize casino legalization on a State basis, during an event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce of Porto Alegre (ACPA, in Portuguese).

When asked by businessman Eduardo Oltramari about casino legalization, Lorenzoni said that granting each state the authority to decide whether to allow this industry in each jurisdiction is the most solid idea the government has been evaluating.

"This would speed up the opening process, especially in tourist areas," Onyx said. According to the Chief of Staff, this topic should be discussed together with potential amendments to certain federal rules next year.
