Construction of the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Casino, a 100,000-square-foot facility in Elizabeth, is expected to take 18 months to complete, Inside Indiana Business reports.
It will replace the existing riverboat casino, which will remain in operation until construction is complete. Horseshoe Southern Indiana parent Caesars Entertainment received approval from the Indiana Gaming Commission to move forward with the project in April.
Brad Siegel, senior vice president and general manager of the casino, says the new facility will feature new dining, retail and entertainment options. When the project was first announced, Siegel said it would provide more convenience for guests by connecting the casino to the hotel and parking structure.
Indiana's riverboat casinos became eligible to move onto land in 2015 following the passage of legislation by the Indiana General Assembly. The Tropicana Evansville casino became the first to make the move, opening its USD 50 M land-based facility last October.
