Rank Group reveals CEO Henry Birch's resignation
This week, British casino operator Rank Group has officially confirmed that its chief executive officer, Henry Birch, has resigned to take over as CEO at online retailer Shop Direct.
Birch was CEO for nearly four years at Rank, which operates Grosvenor casinos and Mecca bingo hall. He has a 12-month notice period, Rank said.
Shop Direct said separately Birch would join later this year and take the reins from interim CEO and group finance director, Derek Harding.
The retailer which operates digital department stores such as Very.co.uk and Littlewoods.com will be banking on Mr Birch’s dexterity with the online side of business, which flourished at Rank during his tenure.
Rank’s digital revenues climbed 16 per cent in the six months to December 2017, the group said last month.
“We’re delighted to attract somebody of Henry’s calibre and very much look forward to working with him as we continue the digital transformation of Shop Direct,” said Aidan Barclay, Shop Direct’s chairman.
