Reaching the end of 2017 and consequently the country's legislative recess, the ongoing discussion on gambling legalisation is being pursued. Today, the bill on the subject -which has been addressed since 2015- might be given momentum. Amidst this debate the CCJ will move the analysis of bill 186/2014 to the third or fourth position in the agenda, according to sources in the Upper House.
The bill has undergone several amendments in the last two weeks, which delayed its treatment in the Upper House. The closest instance came at the hands of Senator Benedito de Lira, who presented the bill, and requested be granted a week for further analysis of the document.
In light of the latest changes, the bill also addresses tariff considerations, outlining how resources will be allocated within the national and state jurisdictions, which in turn will have to invest in health, social welfare, elementary education and public security.
So far, the bill drafted by Senator Ciro Nogueira has dodged the filter of the Committee on Economic Development of the Senate, gaining its unanimous approval. Having passed through the Plenary of the house, and upon request from Senator Magno Malta, the bill was submitted to the CCJ where, if approved, will return to the Senate, which will in turn submit the bill for further analysis at the Lower House.
