After a judge in Choctaw Tribal Court ruled that a legally sufficient number of valid petitions were submitted to call the referendum, local authorities decided to organize a public consultation to approve the construction of a new gaming facility in the state.

“In the next few days, I will meet with the Tribal Election Commission chairwoman to decide on the date of the referendum election. A notice of this election date will be posted soon,” said the Chief of Choctaw Tribe, Phyllis J. Anderson.

The tribal leader ratified his commitment to the new casino development and said he hopes that Choctaw people can make the right decision.

"I have faith in our Choctaw people to evaluate the project on its merits and make an informed decision," he pointed out.

The new casino would be a 35,800 - square - foot gaming facility with 500 slots, 10 table games, grab-and-go and seated restaurants and is expected to create more than 200 new jobs.

The gaming facility in the Red Water community, on the northern edge of Carthage, would be the Tribe’s fourth in the state.
