The message is clear: Marijuana has no place in Nevada casinos. In the first of a series of policy discussions, the commission reiterated that as long as marijuana consumption and possession continues to be viewed by federal authorities as a felony, it will not be allowed in Nevada casinos.

Commissioners believe the reputation of the industry is at stake. “On one hand you have the gaming industry and on the other hand you have the marijuana industry. The two shall not meet,” said Commission Chairman Tony Alamo.

During a meeting last week, regulators also discussed the possibility of allowing third party vendors to peddle marijuana in casinos. The idea was dismissed, too.

Gaming Commission advised that casinos avoid hosting marijuana industry events, such as conventions, at their properties.

Marijuana policy will be discussed over a series of commission meetings in future months, Alamo said.
