As part of its expansion strategy, the Spanish licensed online sports betting operator announced it will enter the newly-regulated Colombian online betting market.

The news comes after a successful launch in Panama, where the company has secured a strong foothold.

Sportium boss Alberto Eljarrat told Spanish press that the firm was in final stages of its digital license review by Colombian gaming authority Colijuegos. Sportium.com.co site would launch by the end of 2017.

Should Sportium get a license, the Ladbrokes and Grupo Cirsa Spanish joint-venture will become the first international betting operator to enter Colombia's newly-regulated online gaming market.

As it prepares to enter the market, Sportium revealed that former Colombia Football Captain Fabian Vargas has become its new Brand Ambassador. Speaking about Colombian players and the key role Sportium will play in the fastest-growing Colombian betting market, he said, “We know the passion with which Colombians live for sport, making it an attractive proposition for our continued internationalization. Sportium will bring to Colombia a wide range of sports, multi-channel access, experience and innovation, which will be our keys to success and the differential that consumers can find in our business.”
