Dutch regulator orders Catena Media to cease operations
The Malta-based firm was forced to stop its promotional activities in the country and refrain from such activities in the future. The local gaming regulator also warned Catena Media that it would impose a fine of up to €21,000 if the company failed to comply with the order.
Kansspelautoriteit claims Catena Media previously targeted Dutch players by promoting online gaming content of different operators on several websites, with some of those being pellenoverzicht.com, gokoverzicht.com, and netentcasino.nl. Following the order’s publication, the websites cannot be reached from within the Netherlands.
Under the new regime introduced in May, online gaming operators and their affiliates cannot target local players by using typically Dutch symbols, like tulips and windmills.
The Netherlands has started a process for the regulation of its online gambling industry. According to Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice officials, the market won't be regulated before July 2018.
