A survey conducted by the local media showed that 68.2% of the respondents were concerned about security issues, followed by negative effects on young people, cited by 57.5%.
The survey conducted by Jiji Press also found that 22.8 pct of all respondents welcomed casino resorts in local or neighboring areas while 10.4 pct said they did not know.
Of the male respondents, 58.9 pct opposed casino resorts near their homes, while the share of opponents was 74.7 pct for women.
The proportion of men welcoming casino resorts stood at 31.4 pct, against 14.3 pct for women.
This week, Japanese authorities outline a series of casino regulations to be submitted for consideration to the Diet. According to the new measures, the number of IR visits per nationals will be restricted, locals will be allowed to purchase casino chips with cash only and the use of credit cards will be exclusive to foreigners.
