Portugal online gaming revenue declines in Q2

According to figures released by gambling regulator Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ), online gaming revenue in the country amounted to EUR 11.4M (USD 13.5M) in the three-month period, down from EUR 13.9M in the opening quarter of the year.

Slot games accounted for 38.1% of total revenue, with poker also being a key revenue driver by contributing €3.7m to total revenue, down from €4.6m in the first quarter.

Sports betting only generated €13.9m during the second quarter, down 20% on the opening three months of 2017.

Football remains the most popular sport for betting with 75% of wagers, some way ahead of tennis on 14% and basketball with 8.7%.

As reported by Onlinepoker.net, the Portuguese government has collected a total of €16.3m in online gaming taxes during the first six months of the year.
