The figures highlight a continued trend in a buoyant Spanish market after the Spanish national gambling regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) also reported year on year growth for Quarter one with a total revenue equating €122.7m for the opening three months. Q2 total revenue peaked at €121.3m which is slightly down on Q1 but does mimic global trends and still represents an impressive like for like performance.
Sports Betting reports increase year on year
Despite seeing 15% less revenue in Quarter two than Q1, sports being revenue has still reported a positive leap in year-on-year revenue. Up by 12.3% compared to the same period last year, the figure equates to a rather healthy €60.1m
Casino revenue has risen by a dramatic 52.5% compared to Q2 figures from 2016 but it is revenue from slots that has gained the most traction over the last 12 months.
Slot revenue sees staggering increase
The figures the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego have released for slot gaming revenue has seen a staggering 84% rise in comparison to quarter two last year.
The total revenue generated through Q2 was reported at €21.5m. Live roulette also contributed €9.5m in revenue in Q2 proving the rapidly rising popularity of the online casino market in Spain.
Popular online card game Poker also saw a 5% rise year on year in Q2 results to €14.4m and even Blackjack got in on the act with a like for like revenue increase of 10.2% to a little under €5m compared to the same period last year.
Increase in Spanish online casino players
Some of the reason for the impressive like for like results can be attributed to the rise of Spaniards hitting online sites. Over 645,000 natives were reportedly active online casino players in Q2, which is a 7% year on year increase.
Despite the continued growth, Spanish gaming companies actually spent a total of 16% less on advertising and marketing their products in quarter two compared to last year. The total figure spent on marketing was a mere €25m. Bonus offers also decreased in Q2 by 14% to just €21.2m which makes the figures all the more impressive considering the reduction in outgoings for Spanish gaming companies.
