Three Carson City casinos fail to block opening of new competitor
Judge James Wilson refused Wednesday to overturn the decision of the Carson City Board of Supervisors to grant a gaming license to Michael Pegram to open a casino in the north part of the city. Pegram already owns casinos in Douglas County and one in Carson City.
The Carson City Nugget, Gold Dust West and Casino Fandango filed a lawsuit to stop Pegram, who had bought the gaming license of a closed casino.
The Horseshoe Club in downtown Carson City had operated since 1975 but closed in 2016. Its license included an exception to a requirement to have 100 hotel rooms to operate a full casino.
In the lawsuit, the competing casinos argued the sale of the license with the exemption was illegal. Wilson said Carson City has the authority to grant, deny or transfer licenses.
