Macau's Labour Affairs Bureau has issued the immediate suspension of all construction work at Morpheus, Melco's fifth hotel tower in the City of Dreams casino complex.

The man who has not been named was working at the site’s 30th floor when a steel beam which was being moved on a higher level 10 metres above fell 33ft on the man killing him instantly.

The Labour Affairs Bureau pledged to continue to intensify its efforts to promote occupational health and safety and strengthen dialogue and cooperation between workers’ associations, organizations and contractors.

The statement added the contractor “can only resume work after receiving approval from the Labour Affairs Bureau”.

DSAL emphasized that a cooperation is necessary for a comprehensive overhaul of security and occupational health in the construction sector.

A Melco Resorts’ April release said that Morpheus -a facility that will have gaming, and was designed by the late Dame Zaha Hadid- was scheduled to open in April 2018.
