Director of marketing and administration for Oklahoma Lottery, Jay Finks, said they are hoping to raise sales on instant tickets by almost USD 40M.

The previous legislation established that 35% of the Oklahoma Lottery profit would go to education. However, the State House Bill 1837 -which was signed into law by Governor Mary Fallin- removed the percentage.

Supporters of the measure said the reform will increase prizes, resulting in more players and more funding for education. The change in the law means the lottery will be able to provide a projected USD 335 million to education in the next five years.

"In the past, Oklahoma Lottery prizes were the worst in the nation, resulting in 12 years of lower payouts. Getting players to return to the game is going to involve new marketing strategy," said Lottery official Jay Finks.

At the moment, local authorities Lottery are in the process of replacing all instant tickets with brand new tickets with higher payouts.

"Part of the new strategy is to educate players about the changes," Finks pointed out.
