The governing body that oversees India‘s goods and services tax (GST) approved Sunday a set of rules including decision on tax rates on lotteries and hotels.

"The council fixed tax rate of 18 percent for hotel rooms between Rs 2,000 and Rs 7,500. Rooms with tariff above Rs 7,500 will attract 28 percent tax," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said while addressing a news conference.

“The rate on state-run lottery will be 12 percent while government-authorized private lottery will draw 28 percent tax," he commented, adding that the Council has also relaxed GST return filing timelines for July and August.

The council will hold their next meeting on June 30.
