Following his participation in the Betting on Football conference that took place in London on May 3 – 5, the CEO of Daily Fantasy Football B2B provider OulalaGames gives his take on the show.

SBC-powered Betting on Football is a key event in the sports betting industry since it’s the only iGaming event purely specialized in football. According to Bollier, “it is a moment where ideas are exchanged among all the stakeholders of the football industry, including football clubs, media, lawyers and online gaming operators.”

Oulala’s boss took part in a panel discussion moderated by Tal Itzhak Ron that focused on the DNA of Daily Fantasy Sports. “Even though most operators are offering DFS games that tend to be real skill games, there are still some that are also offering luck games. This may lead to a major misunderstanding regarding what DFS really is. I therefore strongly recommend that a specific denomination is created for DFS games based on luck. ‘Fantasy betting’ could be a suitable suggestion,” he said.

Why should DFS be a real skill game?

“The promise made to the customers is that DFS is structurally a social game of skill. This is because, for the first time, customers will have the ability to prove to their peers and community that they possess a superior knowledge of sports than they do. For someone who is very passionate about sports, this is a strong promise. However, this promise simply cannot be delivered if the game is based on luck, because there would be no way to prove anything to your peers. Fantasy betting is therefore structurally different from what real DFS is, and it is necessary for them to go by a different title,” Bollier explained.
