Macau gambling revenue up for 8th month in a row

March saw an increase in gross revenue from Macau’s casinos with 21.232 billion patacas (USD 2.654B) and a positive percentage change of 18.1%, the highest of the year, according to figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.

Macau’s casinos started 2017 with a growth in revenues of 3.1% in January with 19.255 billion patacas, which grew to 17.8% in February with a value of 22.991 billion patacas.

In cumulative terms, the first three months of the year brought an income of 63.479 billion patacas (US$7.935 billion), with an annual growth of 13.0% compared to 56.176 billion patacas recorded a year earlier.

In 2016, gaming revenues from Macau’s casino reached 223.210 billion patacas (US$27.901 billion), or a contraction of 3.3% over the amount recorded in 2015, of 230.840 billion patacas.

At the end of 2015 there were 38 casinos in Macau owned by six concession holders, 20 by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, six by Galaxy Casino, five by Venetian Macau, four by Melco Crown Jogos (Macau), two by Wynn Resorts (Macau) and one by MGM Grand Paradise, which had a total of 6,304 tables and 15,769 slot machines.

Over the next two years there are plans to open three new tourist complexes with casinos on the Cotai landfill area between the islands of Coloane and Taipa.
