Amaya fined by New Jersey gaming body for geolocation "flaw"
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement ascertained that a “flaw” in the company’s geolocation software had allowed “a limited number” of out-of-state gamblers to wager “for a short period of time before a subsequent geolocation check detected such patrons and blocked them”. Amaya’s oversight violated the regulator’s strict intrastate gambling rules.
The NJDGE added in their investigation report that PokerStars has since updated its software to remedy the flaw.
The DGE said it discovered “sufficient legal and factual support” to justify the imposition of a $25k fine on Amaya US Services Ltd., which executed a stipulation of settlement with the DGE.
Gaming technology supplier GAN was fined the same amount in New Jersey last June, when the company had “inadvertently activated software” that allowed six out-of-state gamblers to wager through Betfair Interactive.
