Plainridge Park Casino will spend more than $9 million repairing and updating its facilities in its first five years of operations, according to a capital improvement plan approved by the state Gaming Commission.

The plan presented to the commission states that $1.65 million was spent last year and another $1.5 million will be spent this year.

The bulk of the money goes toward replacing slot machines at the Route 1 gaming house. This year alone, Plainridge plans to spend $522,000 on new slot machines.

Another area of heavy spending is the kitchens at the casino restaurants. This year $99,000 in upgrades are being done.

The horse racing area around the harness track is also being improved with new roofs on the paddock, barn and garage planned.
