It will take at least three more months for the Brazilian Senate to finally deabte the bill that seeks to legalize the gambling industry in the South American giant. The project will have to be first addressed by the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ) of the Upper House.

The PL 186/2014 bill sponsored by Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) will have to be discussed by the members of the CCJ in February, expected to reach the floor for debate only in April, according to media reports in Brazil.

The project had been unanimously approved by the Special Committe of National Development back in November. However, the text was rerouted to the CCJ blocking its way to the floor, with a new speaker yet to be appointed.

Meanwhile, another gambling bill still awaits debate at the Lower House. The PL 442/91 was addressed during a public hearing in December, with no date yet confirmed to be debated at the floor.
