Spain’s council of ministers have announced the appointment of Juan Espinosa Garcia as Director General of the country’s gaming authority having previously served as assistant director-general under predecessor Carlos Hernández Rivera since 2013.

Espinosa Garcia holds a bachelor of law and civil administration from the state, a masters in European and international politics (University of Edinburgh) and a masters in economics for competition law (University of London – King’s College).

He previously served as deputy director of relations with the public administration’s competition commission for 5 years before he joined the dgoj.

His predecessor, Carlos Hernández Rivera, suddenly stepped down, under unexplained circumstances, mid november 2016, subsequently issuing an emotional public apology without revealing the cause of his unexpected departure.

Hernández Rivera held the position for over four years, overseeing the introduction of online slots and cross betting to the spanish market during his tenure.
