Pittsburgh City Council on Wednesday gave preliminary approval of an agreement with Rivers Casino in which the casino will pay the city USD 10M in 2017.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court in September struck down the annual tax that casinos pay to host communities. Pittsburgh received $10 million annually from Rivers. The Legislature is scrambling to draft new tax legislation. The agreement Peduto announced guarantees Pittsburgh will receive the full $10 million while lawmakers work to adopt new law.

A final council vote is set for December 29.
