October was another winning month for Mississippi casinos, with statewide gambling revenue increasing nearly 7% thanks to strength along the Gulf Coast.

Figures released by the state Revenue Department show casinos won $174 million from gamblers in October, the highest for the month since 2011.

Gamblers lost $99 million at the 12 coastal casinos, 13 percent more than last October. It's the 24th increase for coastal casinos in the last 29 months.

Revenue fell less than 1 percent at the 16 Mississippi River casinos, dipping to just above $74 million. Receipts along the river have fallen in 44 of the last 52 months, but declines have been growing shallower, raising the possibility of a return to growth.

Numbers exclude Choctaw Indian casinos, which don't report winnings to the state.
