IGT unveiled its newest After School Advantage computer lab at Washington Elementary School with an official ribbon cutting and grand-opening celebration. Special guest speakers included IGT Senior Vice President Scott Gunn and California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.

Washington Elementary hosts about 90 students in its after-school programs, assisting them with homework and tutoring sessions. The computer robot-equipped computer lab will aid students who might not have access to a computer at home after-school. The opening is part of a worldwide program IGT implemented in 1999 to serve at-risk youth in communities where the Company does business. IGT provides government lotteries and the commercial gaming industry with proven solutions across the entire continuum of products and channels, currently providing such lottery services to the California Lottery.

“IGT is providing students with access to a powerful combination of educational resources and cutting-edge technology, opening doors to a vast range of opportunities and a promising future,” IGT Senior Vice President, Global Government Relations and North America Lottery Business Development Scott Gunn said. “IGT is proud to support Washington Elementary School and the children of Lynwood through our ASA Program.”

As part of the $40,000 donation, Washington Elementary School received 40 Chromebooks, 20 iPads, coding system programs, printers, a flat screen television, and moveable furniture for the room. The computer lab also features robotic equipment, such as the Dash and Dot Wonder Pack, Osmo Wonder Kit, Littlebits Gizmo & Gadgets, and a Sphero programmable robot. The new lab will be available for the students of Washington Elementary School during the school year, after school.

“To ensure our students are prepared for college and careers, they need access to the latest technology and learning resources early on in their education,” Lynwood Unified School District Superintendent Paul Gothold said. “I would like to thank IGT for donating such a tremendous facility to our Washington Elementary students.”

Washington Elementary School provides all students the necessary strategies to grow academically and instills in each student a sense of perseverance to achieve their personal goals through a rigorous and balanced curriculum.

Today’s event marks the 283rd IGT After School Advantage lab opening worldwide for the charitable giving program. The opening is also the 22nd After School Advantage lab IGT has opened in California.
