Chairman Robert Welch of Viejas Band of The Kumeyaay Indians has announced the hiring of Thomas McCartney in the role of President and General Manager of Viejas Casino and Resort.

"We are excited that Tom has decided to join our team," said Chairman Welch. "He has been a dynamic force within the gaming industry for years, and he has produced successful results throughout his career. We are confident that his leadership and experience will allow us to continue to improve our world class customer service, and to maximize the performance of our latest economic expansion."

McCartney brings more than 30 years experience to his new role at Viejas Casino and Resort. His experience and vision have helped set the foundation for the development of some of the most iconic properties in the country, namely New York-New York Hotel and Casino, Luxor Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino and, most recently, at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, where he served as Chief Operating Officer for three years. His unique perspective and determination have been the driving forces behind his success.

"I am excited about the opportunity ahead of me with Viejas Casino and Resort," said McCartney.

The property is in the midst of tremendous growth and I am honored that the Band of Kumeyaay Indians have put their trust in me to lead such exciting initiatives

Continuing growth for a property that opened its second luxury tower and expanded casino in October of 2015, McCartney will work with Viejas Enterprise leadership on the construction and marketing of a new all-suite hotel tower that will be home to luxury suites, new restaurants, a luxury spa and an even further expanded gaming floor. Construction for all these initiatives is slated for completion by the fourth quarter of 2018.

The resort and casino is already home to a 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art convention area and a breathtaking outdoor special event space.

McCartney served as a member of the Starbucks National Advisory Board of Licensees. He formerly served as a board member for Three Square Food Bank, a non-profit organization that supports Southern Nevada and has past involvement with the Voice Foundation at MGM Resorts International and United Way in Atlanta County, NJ.

Tom volunteers for the Ocean Institute In Dana Point, CA and is a member of the St Vincent de Paul society at St. Edwards the Confessor church, Dana Point. Additionally, he is an annual supporter of the Diamond Ball, a benefit for The Canine Companions Veterans Initiative.
