In dialogue with Yogonet, Ms. Sierra Hughes said the Global Gaming Expo 2016 allowed GLI to meet with regulators, suppliers and operators from around the world, discussing with them the viewpoints and hot topics in the industry such as eSports.

How was the experience of GLI in the G2E this year?

G2E was a very good show for GLI. We welcomed regulators, suppliers, and operators from around the world, and we had the opportunity to discuss the many services we offer. Attendees were particularly interested in professional services, such as security, risk and threat assessment, as well as the processes involving integration, migration and upgrade of casino systems across the entire enterprise.

Of course, quality assurance testing, lottery testing and iGaming testing and certification are ongoing topics that regulators, suppliers and operators are always interested in learning more about.

Especially with the important exhibition of new types of games such as eSports and skill-based games, and the way regulators will update their regulations to allow these type of technologies

In August, you had the opportunity to meet with regulators from Latin America and the Caribbean who organized the Roundtable in Curacao. Surely, you met again with many of them in Las Vegas. In your opinion, what are the markets in the region showing a stronger performance this year? What major changes at the regulatory level should we expect next year?

The interest in the LatAm region continues to be evident and with the possibility of new markets opening, the variety of operators and suppliers planning to enter the region continues to grow.

This year was important for jurisdictions like Colombia, which continued to innovate regarding gaming regulations that allow for new technologies and types of games such as virtual sports betting, iGaming, and tote systems that make it a very attractive jurisdiction.

In Argentina, we are experiencing the introduction of products from new vendors. Panama is already working on the interconnection of gaming machines nationwide, following the example of Peru and Colombia, and with plans to revamp its iGaming regulations. There are a lot of expectations about Paraguay for the public bid that will allow for sports betting operations and the new casinos bid that will allow for iGaming regulations, as well as Peru, which is working on projects to regulate the market.

We expect for them to follow the Colombian and Bolivian online gaming regulations, where technical standards affecting the gaming aspects and the security aspects of the operation re-regulated.

Of course Brazil continues to be the biggest market that is in process of been regulated. For all jurisdictions, GLI is ready to support the regulators needs and the suppliers’ objectives to penetrate new markets

Clarion has confirmed the third edition of the Brazilian Congress Gaming on November 20-22 this year.  Will GLI participate again in this event? How do you assess the current parliamentary debate in Brazil where both the Lower House and the Senate are addressing gambling projects?

We are excited to attend the Brazilian Gaming Congress, and we hope to build on the good conversations regarding Brazil that we had at Juegos Miami with regulators, suppliers, and operators, all of whom are quite interested in the potential Brazil holds.

We have ongoing dialogs with representatives in the Brazil government regarding regulation, standards and best practices from jurisdictions in Latin America and around the world, and we remain optimistic that Brazil will continue to make progress with gaming-related legislation.

The next big event in the region will be SAGSE Buenos Aires in Argentina. What are your expectations for the show considering the political shift in the country? GLI used to organize a pre-SAGSE event, will you do it this year?

SAGSE Buenos Aires has traditionally been a great show for GLI, and we continuously supported the Argentinean industry via our continuous participation for more than 10 years now.

We are able to support the region with our global expertise that we glean from our worldwide locations, plus we maintain a permanent presence in Argentina with our GLI South America lab located in La Plata, where local suppliers are able to access the certification process to comply with the Argentina regulations and with the more than 475 jurisdictions where GLI is accredited.

The SAGSE Buenos Aires show is a great opportunity to meet with our local clients, discuss global opportunities and meet new and prospective clients. The Latin America and Caribbean Regulators Roundtable was originated in Argentina, and it was celebrated in this country for five years in a row, and it was decided that the roundtable should start a dynamic route for celebration in the different countries of the region, so we could also take the opportunity to highlight the success of the different regulatory entities of the region, the same way that we did in Argentina.
