According to a recent survey conducted by Jane Bokunewicz, Assistant Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Studies at Richard Stockton University, millennials prefer a social and interactive environment when gambling. Is your casino optimized for this new generation of consumers?

After hearing much discussion about millennials and their entertainment preferences at last year's G2E, Jane Bokunewicz, Assistant Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Studies at Richard Stockton University, decided to find out what they really liked by conducting a survey and presenting her findings at this year's Las Vegas show.

More than 500 people responded, giving her a good look at what excites the millennial generation.

Bokunewicz discovered that millennials want social interaction with gaming. Eighty-three percent said that when they gamble, they want to play with friends and family

Additionally, 40 percent of millennials are interested in slot games with a skill-based element. In a surprising discovery from the study, Bokunewicz found millennials would spend more money gambling if the rest of their vacation was priced all inclusively.

Opportunities for gambling establishments that Jane Bokunewicz came across during her study include: non-gaming attractions are essential to bring in the millennial generation; the continuation of slot development to include skill elements and a community feel is extremely important; and it is important for millennials to have access to the sharing economy, which includes services such as Uber and AirBnB.
