The Macau government had ordered the temporary suspension of work at the construction site of the Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai from Friday afternoon due to a fatal accident of a construction worker on site, local media reported.

According to the Labor Affairs Bureau (DSAL), one male worker died on site after being hit by a glass curtain wall that fell from a platform due to a sudden malfunctioning of a hoist.

The government has ordered the cessation of all work involving lifting equipment until the developer has implemented safety measures to improve occupational health and safety standards.

Under Macau law, the developer is required to submit a survey report to the DSAL on the measures it plans to implement, with construction work only to restart with DSAL’s approval.
