The issue of licensing has always been an important one for all type of online gambling companies, with several licensing jurisdiction becoming predominant over the past decade or so. Daily fantasy sports is emerging as a new player favorite in the online gaming world and as such, regulation is much needed to protect the players and regulate the market.

DFS is the only form of online gaming not banned under the UIGEA in the United States and the only online gaming that US players are allowed to participate in. The new form of online gaming is taking the US by storm and is certainly making a strong foothold in Europe as well over the last few years.

European Licensing

While the DFS companies can currently work under some licenses in Europe, including the prestigious UK Gambling Commission license, the leading European gaming licenses that come from the Malta Gaming Authority are not yet being issued by this prestigious licensing body.

The Malta Gaming Authority has recently announced that such a certificate is now in the works and the reason they are not currently issuing such licenses is the fact they believe the DFS do not fall under the current licensing parameters. This is to say that DFS is not a gambling game, but rather a game in which the skill and knowledge is predominant and more important than chance.

First of Its Kind

The Malta Gaming Authority license for skill games will be the first of its kind issued by a major European regulator and it can be expected that DFS companies will be lining up one by one to get the license and start operating legally within the European jurisdiction.
