California online poker bill facing uphill battle at Senate

According to a report from The Los Angeles Times, state Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León said that he is “not in a rush” to regulate online poker in the Golden State. He said the same thing about daily fantasy sports. The efforts to legalize online poker have stretched on for roughly a decade.
Though a bill in California aiming to regulate online poker is slated to be brought up on the Assembly floor next week after months of consideration, the measure could have an even greater uphill battle in the Senate, should it make it there.
The bill, AB 2863, sponsored by Assemblymember Adam Gray, passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee in June and has been waiting for consideration by the full Assembly.
The online poker bill is advertised as a consumer protection package, which would give the state control over games that are already happening in a legal gray area.
