The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp has announced a freeze on the issuing of new online gaming licenses following comments by new Philippines President, Rodrigo Duterte, reports the Manila Bulletin.

Pagcor operates state-owned casinos in the Philippines and is also the regulator for the country’s gaming industry.

“For now, we will freeze the issuance of licenses for these types of games, and then review what the President said,” Andrea Domingo, the new chairwoman of Pagcor, said in an interview.

Duterte said during his first cabinet meeting last week that he planned to curb online gambling in the country and revoke existing licences, although no further details have been released.
