Detroit gambling revenue down in May compared to previous month

Revenue for the the three Detroit casinos fell 3% in May from the month earlier period, according to numbers released Tuesday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Revenue for the the three Detroit casinos fell 3% in May from the month earlier period, according to numbers released Tuesday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Figures released by the Michigan Gaming Control Board show that total aggregate revenue for the three casinos was $118.5 million last month, down 1 percent from the same month last year and 0.3 percent from the first five months of 2015.

MGM Grand Detroit reported $51.9 million in revenue for last month, up 0.3 percent from the same month last year.

MotorCity Casino Hotel's revenue fell 2 percent to $39 million. And Greektown Casino-Hotel's revenue was down 2.2 percent to $27.6 million, according to numbers reported to the state.

For the month, MGM had a 44 percent share of the market. MotorCity had 33 percent and Greektown had 23 percent.

The three Detroit casinos paid $9.6 million in gaming taxes to the state of Michigan during May compared with $9.7 million for the same month last year.

They reported submitting $14.1 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit during May, the Michigan Gaming Control Board said.
