Attorney Adam Bond has gave an insight on the montion filled to stop contruction of the USD 1B First Light Resort in Taunton, Massachusetts.

According to Bond there was a reason why a motion wasn’t filed sooner.

“It had a lot to do with the fact that nobody had started doing anything on the land yet. And if you take a look at a lot of the cases where people try and enjoin the building of the casino or enjoin building on Indian land, a lot of the denials of those motions come from the fact that it’s speculative because nobody’s started to build anything yet,” Bond said.

Besides clearing the land at the site of the casino, the tribe has openly stated its intentions to ramp up construction.

“The Mashpee turned around and said ‘Genting’s behind us 100pc, we’re going to fast track this thing even though we’re building a half of the gaming platform we were proposing, we’re gonna fast track this thing and be ready for 2017 to open,” said Bond.

The move is the latest in the ongoing lawsuit brought by Taunton residents, who say the federal government overstepped its authority when it allowed the tribe to take land into trust for the casino

The motion aims at the US Supreme Court reversing a 2015 decision to place 151 acres in Taunton as reservation land and allow the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian tribe building a casino.
