The Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, one of the main venues to host the upcoming Olympic Games, could become a huge casino resort after the event.

This has been informed by representatives of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the American mixed martial arts company and owner of up to 20 casinos in the United States.

Frank and Lorenzo Fertittta, UFC owners reported the idea to turn the Olympic Park in a luxurious casino resort, which in turn would host the martial arts championship. The proposal also addresses the need to monetize government venues built exclusively for the Olympic Games, once the event is finished.

The future of this initiative will be absolutely determined by how this legal procedure progresses in the following months

The company has barely started conversations with local government, so for the moment no further details on the scale of investment or what type of facilities would the complex house have been revealed yet. However it is meant to be an initiative of great magnitude, as will be located in the main stage of the competitions during the games, hosting 16 Olympic activities and 9 Paralympic.

Now the UFC joins the group of international firms that put their eyes on Brazil, through the process of legalization and regulation of the gaming industry in the country. The future of this initiative will be absolutely determined by how this legal procedure progresses in the following months.

It is estimated, however, that the dialogue between business men and local authorities continue towards and during the event to advance on negotiations as much as possible until next September.

This is important as the company plans to install and operate in an already built venue, not to mention the benefits it represents for the government the licensing of a property of this magnitude after the Olympics.
